It is a heavy-duty freight locomotive (axle weight 25t) for mainline transportation. 12 of them (axle weight 23t) are used on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, and one locomotive with radial bogies was trial-produced. In 1998, Zuyang Works carried out technical improvements and started mass production. The nominal power is 3100KW and a maximum speed of 100km/h. A total of 897 units were produced
